Cookies are nothing new; every visitor of websites has lots of cookies saved on our computers, tablets, phones… The only new thing is that with a new legalisation (ZEKom-1) some changes about informing or agreement visitors about their use.

 

WHAT COOKIES ARE?

Cookies are small text data which most websites save in the device the user uses for access to the website. Its purpose is to recognise the device the user used for the access. Saving of cookies is by full control of the browser the user is using.

 

WHY COOKIES ARE NEEDED?

Cookies are a basic need for providing a user friendly internet service. Interaction between internet users and web page is, because of cookies, faster and more simple. That’s how a web page remembers your preferences and experiences and saves you some time, browsing through pages is more effective. Some of use of cookies:

  • for a better user experience at the website, we show only content based on previous visits
  • for saving choices at making an inner circle of devices and offers and its comparison on parts of websites, where a log in is needed we keep you logged in
  • for recognising your device (computer, tablet, phone), which can adjust how to show content based on the device you use
  • for tracking visits which makes possible to check effectivity of showing content, suitability of ads and making the web site better all time
  • they are a must for working of some services (for example with online bank, online shops in other ways of e-commerce)

 

WHY DO WEBSITES USE COOKIES?

Cookies are used by most websites; are a useful way of keeping fresh and appropriate content, which is within the interests and preferences of every user itself. There are many causes for using cookies – the most important one is definitely saving data about the state of websites (details about adjustments), they also help with some web services, collecting statistics about users habits because that is the only way to keep track of websites visits. Companies can assess the effectiveness of their websites like suitability, ranks and number of ads that are offered to users on their websites.
